when i won also, i took a friend and she paid her taxes and we were at a 12 star resort it was amazing, so although we each paid taxes, consider you pay taxes anyway for a trip that you buy and really its still an awesome deal, I know most are tax free, those are the best, thanks for the answer, i ususally just guess or my friend tells me hapy friday

Taxes are crazy on this prize!

Just received notification I won, but the taxes are $400/pp! Add the fee to fly out of Vancouver (vs TO), and it's $700++/pp. Pretty steep :(

Posted by: QueridaSara on September 19, 2016

Congrats QueridaSara! Although the tax part = not cool. What trip did you win??

Posted by: Roscoe2013 on September 19, 2016

Thanks, Roscoe2013 - you are the sweetest <3

It's a trip to Cuba - 7nts, all inclusive, for 2, at the Melia Las Dunas in Cayo Santa Maria, Cuba. The resort seems nice enough, the reviews about the cockroaches aside :)

(I'm totally ruined for resorts - I stayed at a Secrets Report last December, which is now how I rate all vacations, lol. Secrets Puerta Vallarta, foreva!)

"QueridaSara", I know what you mean about being ruined. The first trip that I won was to Sandals Whithouse with no additional fees. The second was to Royalton White Sands. A great resort but after Sandals a step down and we had to pay the airline taxes for 4 people. On the positive side they gave us two adjoining rooms. Saying this I would gladly go to both of them again.

Posted by: GL on September 20, 2016

Am putting a comment here as a test. I seem to have "lost" the notifications that comments have been made on things I've commented before. As I'm away, & not able to get online on a regular basis, it's been hard to follow. So I'll take this opportunity to wish everyone on here, a Very Merry Christmas & Happy New Year. Won't be home til the 2nd week in January. Fingers crossed for ANY wins in 2017 !!

OK, I need to clarify something here, else my mum will continue to roll around in her jar !! Toad in the Hole is NOT sausages in pastry (that would be a sausage roll !!). Toad in the Hole is sausages (already par cooked), then put in a square pan (think 8" x 8"-not too big, want to cook evenly), then Yorkshire Pudding batter !! poured over it !!! If the cook makes a good yorkie (like my mum did), then the edges will all puff up, & the centre, (with the snags) will be all gooey & yummy !! Serve with lots of beef gravy !!!

lin13, Mum used the Yorkshire Pudding mixture for pancakes (like crepes), on Shrove (Pancake) Tuesday, every year too. You can eat with lemon juice & sugar, or I still liked my "Aunt Jemima" & butter. Growing up, we had Roast beef & yorkshires at least twice a week, leftovers in between !! She would make 24 yorkshires....for the 4 of us. There was NEVER any left for the next day. What didn't get eaten with dinner, went in a serving bowl on the kitchen table. When one of us walked by we'd grab one, yes, even cold. Wish I could do it. That talent probably skips a generation. (My dad said my Nana's yorkshires were flat as a pancake ! LOL). I've decided I'm going to try making Toad in the Hole this winter, not putting the oven on before October !! Too Hot !!

Posted by: Anon (Anne in Van) on August 2, 2017

@Anne in Van. Loving your Yorkshire Pudding stories. I had never had Yorkshire Pudding until I tried it when my children were young. We all love it too...& yes cold is good too! I would say your Nana didn't heat the oil in the pan first?

Posted by: anonymous on August 2, 2017

My grandmother made great Yorkshire pudding. Mom tried and every now and then, hers was good, but it was hit and miss. I've had occasional luck with it, but I married a German/Ukrainian, so I don't make Yorkshire very often.

anonymous, I think my mum attributed it to "not enough wrist motion" when areating/beating the batter with a wooden spoon" by Nana. My nana died in 1980, never had an indoor bathroom, (I hated staying there in '77-couldn't stay at my aunt's 'cos my cousin & her boys were there til they moved back to Oz, 2 wks into our vacation. Only hot water was a gas fired, wall mounted heater above the kitchen sink. She never had a fridge, just a pantry, with a cold counter (stone or marble) for putting perishables on. Only net curtains in the middle & back bedroom. Gave me a fright one morning, woke up to a face at the window, I'm thinking "this is the upstairs??". Was the window cleaner !! Went back to see the house (terraced) when I went to the UK 2 yrs ago.

Remember I said I fought my way through the book, well my friend at work won the passes (I told her to enter every day, as did I), we went on Wed night. All I can say is, they did an amazing job, brilliantly cast, missed quite a bit of the story, so best if you read the book first. Most importantly, stay AFTER the credits have finished rolling. Worth your while.

Yesterday, the trip for the week to win was to the Iberostar Daiquiri in Cayo Coco, Cuba, I see they have changed it today. We are booked to go to that resort in Cayo Coco for the beginning of December but it looks like it won't happen, they had a lot of devastation there. I feel bad for everyone impacted by Hurricane Irma.

Posted by: lin13 on September 12, 2017

lin13, you never know how quickly they can get it up & running. Have you talked to your travel agent? There was a bad storm in Cabo a few years ago, (was watching it, as a friend was going). They were up & running in a couple of weeks. Not as devastating, however, but I was really surprised at how quickly. Of course, it's their livelihood, so they will literally move heaven & earth to get it fixed. Hope you have a good trip wherever you end up.

Posted by: dreambig123 on November 1, 2017

Posted by: Anne (Anon in Van) on November 1, 2017

dreambig123 - I believe it's EST for the contest though so it would have been November 1st. I only know because I'm out west as well and have run into entering late at night and having to wing the answers as it's the next day's question and no one in central/eastern Canada was awake to type the answers yet. :) There is only 1 set of 3 questions/day, the same set for the entire day (and the October 31 answers were posted earlier). Hope that helps, your answers did help me just the cinnamen (likely an autocorrect) just threw me off for a second.
Anne: The first question on October 31st was "what is on either side of the ----- (lion was it?) on the ------ tea logo? The answer was 2 Chinamen

Maddmom - I won a trip to Cuba with Trip Central 8 or 9 years ago. I paid taxes, air fare to Toronto, hotel for the night, taxis to & from airports so basically I got the all inclusive for free. I had wanted to visit that part of Cuba so I was Ok with those costs as they would have been the same had I paid for the resort. I seldom enter as I wonder if I would not qualify to win again.

Thanks Amanda 89 for the answers !

Maddmomm, I wish I would win one of the Trip Central trips to somewhere warm. I am dreading winter. I have been a member of contest girl for several years, and only won the odd gift card, movie passes, and spices. However, I just won the canada.com Trip of a lifetime contest , so right now they are planning our trip to Calgary. I guess it pays to keep entering. Good luck to you and your contesting !

Congratulations kathydubreuil on your wonderful win of the trip to Calgary, I'm so happy for you! I have been entering the Trip Central trips for a long time as well and am glad that so many from Contest Girl have won.
