There is GST/HST and PST on new vehicles, so if the vehicle cost was about $40,000 then you would have to pay the taxes. Something to consider if you win as to the vehicle chosen.
I was super lucky to recently win a car and the first thing I checked in the rules was if the taxes were covered as that is about 12% in BC. I was very happy the sponsor covered the taxes on my win.

WoW Maggie22, you won a car! Congratulations! The most expensive thing I've ever won is a $150 certificate from a Toronto travel shop that I can only use if I book an all-inclusive vacation. :( I'll never be able to use it, so am sending it to a cousin in Ottawa. I've been entering contests for 8 years now and have won a carry-on suitcase, a $10 gift card, movie tickets and some samples. I guess I'm not the winning kind. I keep thinking I'm going to quit, but there's always the hope that one day, it could be me!

To me it looks like they will cover any costs under $40,000. If you pick a vehicle that's worth $30,000, I think they would cover the taxes. If you pick a truck worth $40,000 you would have to pay the taxes. Just my take on it.
