Apparently this was last years "a park in dartmouth - had to get the peg right on the park ranger's pen holder on the left side of his desk in his secondary office, not the main office"
Posted by: pokernun on March 3, 2025

Good thing it was in Canada as this year the park ranger has no desk or office as it has been eliminated by DOGE. LOL

Clues 1 & 2: Given the first two clues, I think it is in Alberta (has a L in the province name) and has 14 guys who won the Art Ross Trophy while playing for AB teams. At first I thought it was guys from a province, but that would take a lot of research to find out their origins. Thoughts?
Posted by: 123ABC on March 4, 2025
|
It says 'the province where it is hidden is the home of 14 Art Ross Trophy wins.' I think it's referring to Alberta, but it hasn't been narrowed down yet to a specific spot.

British Columbia has produced the third most NHL players in Canada, behind Ontario and Quebec.
Posted by: Platform on March 6, 2025

123ABC: I did a bit of digging on the "birth province" possibility today, and I agree that it has to be the team they were playing for at the time.
The only way to get as high as 14 is to have at least one multi-win player in the count. I checked a list of 8 Canadian multi-win players, and none of them were from an L province. Only two multi-winners had even played for an L province, and it was Alberta for both.
Gretzky: 7 of his 10 wins were playing for Edmonton McDavid: all 5 wins were playing for Edmonton Iginla: 1 win, playing for Calgary Draisaitl: 1 win, playing for Edmonton
The only other L Province team with any winners was the Vancouver Canucks, and they only have 2 wins total. So yes indeed, I think it's gotta be Alberta!

Good work stymchuk, you beat me by 7 minutes to say the same thing! Of course we could all be totally wrong and the Stanley Cup is hidden in the hockey hall of fame.

Is it always in the same spot or move day to day?
Posted by: Mimi2024 on March 8, 2025
|
It is in the same spot for the whole contest period. Right now the only thing we know for sure is that it's in Alberta. None of the clues have narrowed it down to any particular place.
Posted by: ronnieg on March 9, 2025

Does anyone recall whether it's been hidden in Alberta before? And if so, where?
Posted by: slegr on March 10, 2025

It was hidden in southern Alberta a couple of years ago. I can't remember if it was Medicine Hat? Or Drumheller?

Wood Buffalo National Park! I got the coordinates for the largest beaver dam in the world, within the park. I'm not sure if there will be further clues narrowing it done somewhere in the park or if it's the beaver dam itself?

Ahh, after re-reading the clue I think it's just another indication it's in Alberta?
Posted by: Vviggs on March 15, 2025

I think it's Alberta too, but really the clues are not narrowed down enough to guess a more precise location. So my guesses are all over the place. Good luck folks!

Does anyone have any thoughts on the use of Hotmail e-mail accounts? Maybe companies just disregard them now because they are so easy to get. Started entering 15 years ago and would win lots. Nowadays the wins just don't come. Thanks for your thoughts.
Posted by: Tyroneshoelaces on March 22, 2025

Interesting thought! It never occured to me you could win/not win based on your email address. In the last 12 months I think I've won 2 pretty solid prizes (>$500) and 1 medium prize (<$100). I actually won't this contest in 2022! I had just given birth to my first son so my husband and his friend ended up going on the trip. That was all with my Hotmail account. I do wonder if I win this one if I would still go on the trip if the game is in the states. I'm honestly not sure.
Posted by: Vviggs on March 22, 2025
|
Congrats on the trip and the baby! I just know so websites don't allow Hotmail accounts because they are too easily available. Maybe the contest sites feel the same...people could make many Hotmail e-mails and cheat. Just rethinking everything after slim winnings nowadays.

Definitely food for thought! Thanks :)

Congratulations Vviggs! :-) and Tyronshoelaces, when I first stated this hobby just over 10 years ago,I read a tip that said to set up a separate email just for entering contests so I set up a gmail. I never heard that contest sponsors don't accept hotmail entries. You would think that if there was a concern, then the sponsor should put that in the rules similar to how some say no PO box address allowed. Good luck folks!.

Anyone win one of the clean-up-the-mess prizes yet?
Posted by: jan123 on March 24, 2025

I haven't won an instant prize yet, but I'm still hopeful.
The latest clue seems to allude to a place where a long hockey game was played. I remember hearing on CBC radio there was a charity event that lasted a long time. I thought it was in north-western Alberta, but I can't recall where.

oh, if it was in 2021....google search shows ...The event, which had special rules this year to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic, was first started in 2003 by doctor Brent Saik, who lost his father to cancer. He kept it going after his wife also died from the disease. The game is always played on an outdoor rink on Saik's rural property near Sherwood Park, Alta. Players, who were in an "NHL-style bubble," had to deal with extreme cold weather that persisted for much of the 10 days.

Wood Buffalo National Park in Alberta is larger than Switzerland and other similar-sized nations.
Posted by: interlake on March 26, 2025

Other than the fact that all clues so far point to aLberta, the #1 clue ruled out OntLario. No "L" in the province name unless it's spelled L'Ontario on Ontariol, etc. Maybe it's the potential new name of the 11th province?!?

The Oilers have retired 8 numbers, so now we've got two clues to confirm Edmonton!
Posted by: interlake on April 4, 2025

Yes I am staying with Edmonton guesses. I think this latest clue is about Terry Fox. As per wiki, In the summer of 1977, Rick Hansen, working with the Canadian Wheelchair Sports Association, invited Fox to try out for his wheelchair basketball team.Less than two months after learning how to play the sport, Fox was named a member of the team for the national championship in Edmonton, Alberta. He won three national titles with the team.
Posted by: paula3kids on April 5, 2025

Agreed Paula! Now I'm just wondering if some of the other clues that didn't mention the province could help us pin down the exact location? There was one about the beaver dam and... Another one I cant remember. Something about the longest hockey game.
Posted by: vviggs on April 5, 2025
|
Those two clues aren't in Edmonton, so I don't think they're pin-pointers. The beaver dam is in Fort Chipewyan (nowhere near Edmonton), and the long game at Saiker's Acres was in Sherwood Park (close to Edmonton, but not technically in the city).
Posted by: interlake on April 5, 2025

Sorry, yes. I could have added more details. We're trying to pinpoint the pizza chain they are talking about. Maybe the flagship location of one of these pizza chains. One that started in Edmonton but is known across the border.

It could be referring to Boston Pizza. Jim Treliving's son is an NHL coach in the States.

The "queens of the nation and world" in basketball are the Edmonton Grads. This all-women's basketball team, based in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, were incredibly dominant, winning a remarkable 95% of their games over 25 years (1915-1940). They were known for their dominant play and often won games with large margins of victory.

Apr 23 clue "The tall downtown tower could make you think the Stanley Cup is hidden somewhere it s not. " This makes me think it is not Stantec Tower. At this rate we can eliminate every building in Edmonton by 2032!
Posted by: 123ABC on April 22, 2025

Yes, 123ABC :-) I feel we really have only narrowed down to the city (Edmonton). Meanwhile for today, the clue may relate to the Al-Rashid Mosque ( Mosqu e Al-Rashid) which was the first mosque built in Canada.

This sentence doesn't make sense to me. "being a millionaire of this product" - does that mean the owner of something was a millionaire? Like Peter Pocklington? But only a few thousand remain. ??
Buffalo?

Even a few thousand Peter Pockingtons might be too many. Perhaps they are referring to potholes :) Howver potholes could be anyplace in Edmonton.
