Thanks to: Sidetracker for telling me about this one

Comments:

I believe this is like Omaze (which I obviously believe in as my hubby won a vacation!) and One Country but what does everyone think of the conditions of being awards?
example of one...
DONATIONS MADE $1,275
MINIMUM TO AWARD PRIZE $60,000

Posted by: LMGRUETTER on August 26, 2022

There are 30+ nice vehicles offered by these folks. I've thrown my name in the hat for all of them.

Posted by: sidetracker on August 26, 2022

I have mixed feelings about the minimum donation threshold. They just want to be able to cover the cost of the prize. Since I am not donating, that's fine with me. But, I think if I were donating and they ended up not awarding the prize, I d be upset.

Posted by: ChefX on August 28, 2022

Thank you both!

Posted by: LMGRUETTER on August 28, 2022

These seem very difficult to win without donating. My understanding is you get 1 ticket ($1 worth) without donating and are limited essentially to 1 a day per contest because processing of the amoe takes so long.

Hopefully someone on CG can beat the odds!

I did read that on one of the prizes, that "In the event less than $xxxx in donation proceeds are received during the Sweepstakes Entry Period, the Sponsor will provide one half of the net donation proceeds to the qualified selected winner.

Not sure if this applies to every prize, but it looks like if the minimum isn't met, this turns into a 50/50 draw.

The Corvette that ends tomorrow only has $16K of the required $200K donation. That's REALLY far away. I'd imagine they don't give away many cars if this is common

Posted by: asdf on August 30, 2022

Nevermind that. I also see one that requires a 200K donation & it's at nearly 1.2 million. There was another with no minimum donation requirements

Posted by: asdf on August 30, 2022

I just wish that it didn't take so long to enter them. You basically have to fill something out twice and wait a long time in between the two times. Also, if entering all the contests it takes a really long time.. if someone has the time and they win then that's great for them I guess haha

Posted by: Mtscanada on September 9, 2022

Yeah, the time involved is a consideration as well as the need to "redeem the ticket" in an email they send. For me it is worth it for a chance at these terrific vehicles. I don't enter every day, but when I can. charitystars.com is similar and offers trips to see some great performers but doesn't include the need to respond via email.

I just won the Brand-New 2023 Porsche Macan in Carrera White Sweepstakes!!!!! Put on by Gulfstream Goodwill. I honestly still can t believe it. I have been entering thru this website for two years. This is the first major thing I ve won ever! I entered 88 times using the non donation entry. I saved all my confirmations just in case. There will be about $5500 plus in taxes fees etc and I ll have to go get it. But it s a $60k car. Think I can sell it for a pretty good profit. So keep the faith everyone. Keep trying to win!

Congratulations rford2016! Did you need the confirmations in the end?

Posted by: mtscanada on January 29, 2023

No they didn t ask for the confirmation. But each giveaway is run by a different company so I m still hanging on to other others just in case.

Posted by: orphanedious on February 5, 2023

They called me and left a voicemail. Texted. And then I had them email me all the details cause I didn t know if it was a scam. Lol Thank you all :)

Posted by: rford2016 on February 8, 2023

rford2016 first congrats, also so they called you that is good and did you have to show your receipt ticket, I am saving all of mine, But also in Canada you do not have to pay the taxes on a price it is like a gift, I have won two boats and two cars and I never had to pay taxes., but the insurance company had to go through the Ministry of Finance because they were not sure how to do that. anyway , congrats and good luck to everyone

There is a tax treaty between Canada and USA. A resident citizen pays taxes in their own country no matter where it is earned. Lotteries and prizes are considered windfalls in Canada and are not taxable, and are considered income in USA and are taxable. Thus a Canadian living in Canada can earn income in USA and have it taxed under Canadian law. There is usually a 30% withholding tax until the proper paperwork for non-resident aliens is filed, which is then refunded.

Since Americans have to pay taxes on winnings, there is frequently an option to receive it over time keeping the winner in a lower tax bracket than if paid all at once. With a large prize Americans have to cough up the tax right way and sometimes have to decline if they cannot come up with the cash. Omaze awards a cash supplement to pay for the tax so they can award the vehicles and trips.

Speaking of Omaze, they have no prizes on offer, anyone know what is happening there?

FYI if you are a Canadian winner

https://www.amexpattax.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Gambling-Return-FAQ-TS2020.pdf

To obtain a refund you must be able to prove you had gambling losses. If you have no gambling losses to deduct from your winnings, there is no point to filing the return since you will not get a refund.

There's one giveaway we can only enter by mail, not online. I'm posting it here just so I stop clicking on it every day. Here is the one by mail only (open until December so it will be on the list a long time)

Win this Carroll Shelby Centennial Edition Supercharged 2023 Shelby Mustang! (Black car in picture)

Posted by: Kmn711 on March 7, 2023

Skip the first row for now. They've moved things around and added more.

The first row: South Jersey Region SCCA (red) Build Your Dream 2024 Corvette Stingray 2LT Coupe, and Fair Lane Code Orange Bronco Raptor are more "By Mail Only" in addition to Carroll Shelby Centennial Edition Supercharged 2023 Shelby Mustang.

Posted by: JBRITTAIN2 on March 14, 2023

I hope eliminating the free online entry is not going to be the norm. I see the last three new giveaways are missing the online entry :(

Posted by: Trying2win on March 17, 2023

maybe they have too many winners that are not paying, but those are the rules
